I just bought a new humidor. How do I prepare my humidor before I use it for the first time?

Answered By Allan Hixby, Editor

Once you have purchased your humidor, you should know how to prepare it for use before storing cigars in it. Here are the steps for preparing a humidor for use:

- Calibrate the hygrometer

- Use a humidor solution in your humidifier, which you will have to replace with distilled water after 4 to 6 months.

- Place a cup of distilled water in the humidor and leave it there for 24 hours. This will let the cedar wood absorb enough moisture so it won't take it from the cigars you will store.

- You are now set to store cigars in your humidor.

Remember these things and you will have quality cigars for years to come.
