How do you keep cigars fresh besides in a humidor?
Can you answer Nicholas N's question about humidors?:
And how long is their shelf life before they get stale?

They will stay good as long as they are kept air tight in a dry cool area.
Rum Flavoured one's are the best.
If you keep the hydrostat ( thats the vessel you put the liquid in, located in your humidor) sufficiently full, your cigars will last indefinitely as long as you keep the lid sealed. If the cigars are not stored properly, they will last 3-5 days at best.
Having said that, if you have a humidor, just keep the hydro stat filled using either polypropelene glycol or distilled water, both prevent mold and mildew. In addition, if you are serious about cigars, buy a hygrometer for about $10 and it will measure the humidity and tell you when to add liquid to the hydrostat, so you are not guessing. Proper humidity is between 60-70%.
