I just bought a box of cigars and humidor but?
Can you answer jcmorris8's question about humidors?:
I didn't know or realize that the humidor had to be calibrated and set up for some time. What can I do to keep my cigars from spoiling while the humidor is being prepped? How long will they last in just the box before drying out? These are Montecristo's so the last thing I want to do is ruin them.

Oh no you brought a box of cigars time to get some Americans on here who write abusive comments about you because you smoke!
Ziploc bag or tupperware container with a good lid will help keep them fresh. Sometimes you can cut off the corner of a clean sponge and dampen it with distilled water to add a little humidity (although it won't be a controlled amount) in the box. Don't let the damp sponge touch the cigars themselves.
Still though, your new humidor should adjust pretty rapidly, and even during this period I would still think your cigars would best be kept there. A digital temp/humidity guage is a good investment too. Those brass, dial type ones that usually come with humidors are normally really inaccurate.
A large tupperware type container with a damp sponge will keep them humidified for a while. Put the sponge in a plastic bag or in a small bowl so the cigars do not come in contact with it. Before you put your humidifier and cigars in the humidor, wipe the inside down with a little bit of distilled water, just enough to make the wood get darker, put in the humidifier and leave it closed for a day or 2 with the hygrometer inside. When the hygrometer reads 70% for a day or so, put in the cigars. Most of the dial hygrometers that come with humidors are pretty crappy. I would go with a digital one, such as a Xikar or Diamond Crown.
