I have a cigar humidor i got about a week ago. I filled the humidifier and charged the hygrometer. I also left a glass full of water to evaporate and season the wood. I have left it in my room at room temperature and my cigars are drying out and it seems like the humidor does not hold humidity. What exactly do i need to do to keep it humidified?

My humidor has small container with florist foam which is soaked, but I still have to put a sponge in the humidor and I have not been able to get the humidity above 65%. I did season it by wiping it with a damp sponge. Any suggestions?

I see there is a hard "sponge" of sorts in a plactic case inside it. Do I immerse this in water? Must it be distilled water or will regular water do? How would I know if I put too much water in? What is the ideal humidity for keeping cigars?

Can you answer mason's question about humidors?: my humidor hangs around 50% humidity. unfortunatly i forget to add water. why can't you just leave a cup of water in it instead of the sponge? will the cigars get too moist?
